    Lunch and Learn

Sisterhood Lunch and Learn will begin its 22th season of study on September 8 and continue on Mondays through May 18. These classes, with more than 90 men and women participants, are an opportunity to join with a group of serious adult learners for lively discussion and warm camaraderie. These classes begin at noon and go until 2:30 p.m. with a lunch catered by the Butcherie II in Canton.

The schedule for this year is as follows:

12:15-1 p.m. "Torah" Rabbi Starr will continue his study of the Biblical Book of Sh'mot (Exodus), Chapter 22. We will begin an intensive study of Biblical Law, it origins and content. The text is studied in English with frequent references to the Hebrew text and Jewish legendary tradition. No previous participation is necessary.

    1-1:30 p.m. Lunch

1:30-2:30 p.m. The history and theology of the Siddur. In past years, Lunch and Learn has taken up the study of many Jewish texts, but never have we studied the Siddur as a text. Looking at the history of prayer and the Siddur, we hope to analyze and understand the meanings the text has had to different generations. The Siddur is the repository of Jewish ideas and historical development to help us better understand its meaning for us. The text will be studied both in Hebrew and in English, but no knowledge of Hebrew is necessary. All the material will be translated and thus accessible to anyone. Even those who have never been in Lunch and Learn may want to participate in this unique opportunity to study one of our most interesting and stimulating texts.
