Slichot Program & Services
Saturday evening, September 21st, 8:45pm
with Guest Speaker, Rob Leikind, AJC Regional Director
Prior to Rosh HaShanah, Slichot services allow us to prepare ourselves for the Days of Awe.
Temple Israel is pleased this year to host our South Shore neighbors from Congregation Bnai Tikvah for learning and prayer to start the High Holy Day season.
We will begin at 8:45 pm with an opportunity for folks to meet and greet one another. At 9, we will introduce our speaker-Robert Leikind of the American Jewish Committee, to speak on Teshuva- returning to a relationship of discourse over disagreement.
Under Bob‘s guidance an effort is underway which seeks to address the anti-Israel rhetoric emanating from portions of the Christian community. At the same time the AJC and its rabbinic partners hope to open an honest and challenging relationship based upon true mutual respect. This effort provides a model for genuine growth and understanding within all our relationships. The talk will conclude before 10. The talk will be followed up by an opportunity for coffee and light refreshments.
The service will begin at 10:30 PM with the changing of the torah mantles. This service should end by around 11:20. Rabbis Fish and Silverman will be joined in leading the service by Rabbi Leonard Gordon and Cantor Joshua Grossman, as well as the entire B’nai Tikvah community.
