Israel Affairs Committee
The Israel Affairs Committee is a group of Temple Israel members who are passionate about Israel. While we don't always agree on politics, we do agree that Israel is a special place for the Jewish people. We care deeply about the Israeli people and want to see Israel survive and thrive into the future. We seek to run programs that keep our congregation and community informed about all aspects of Israeli society: arts and culture, medicine, technology, education, and even politics. Our goal is to "look at Israel beyond the headlines," and to encourage the community to join us in listening with an open mind to those who may have different viewpoints, to always seek to learn more about the country that we love so much.
We welcome your input! Do you have an idea for a program, speaker, book club discussion, or movie? If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Aaron Kischel, committee chair.
This fall, fires swept through Israel, due to both arson and natural conditions. Communities all over Eretz Yisrael are left with the task of cleaning up and repairing the damage.
The Moriah synagogue in Haifa (Boston's sister city in Israel) suffered severe damage. The Masorti (Conservative) synagogue was able to save its five Torah scrolls, but the building and much of its contents are charred, melted, smoke damaged, and otherwise unusable, including books, furniture, appliances, and the like.
Temple Israel has begun a fund to collect the necessary monies to help Congregation Moriah repair, restore, and refurnish their beloved synagogue, called the Moriah Haifa Fund. 100% of our donations will go directly to the restoration project. Help us help them be able to rededicate their synagogue. Checks should be made out to Temple Israel, marked Moriah Haifa Fund. Thank you!
