Social Action: Literacy Team

Become a Literacy Team Tutor

"Working with children is very gratifying, particularly in a setting in which the classroom teacher is very appreciative of your help. That's what makes tutoring for the Temple Israel Literacy Team so gratifying. You will have an opportunity to help a child and feel personally fulfilled at the same time."

— Evelyn Lang

As a member of the Temple Israel Literacy Team, you too can make a difference. Help a child improve his or her reading skills by giving one hour of your time one day a week, morning or afternoon, throughout the school year. No prior experience is necessary; training is provided by the Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy (GBJCL), a program of the Jewish Community Relations Council. After training, you will be paired with a kindergarten, first, second, or third grade student at the Kennedy School in Brockton, where your efforts will be greatly appreciated.

To register for GBJCL, visit this link and be sure to follow all instructions, including listing your affiliation with Temple Israel of Sharon and Kennedy Elementary of Brockton. If you need a printed registration form or would like more information feel free to contact Myra Adelman, our Team Leader, through the Temple Israel office or visit the GBJCL website.

Sincerely,

Myra Adelmann (literacy@tisharon.org)
