Sukkot 5780 / 2019 and
Simchat Torah/ Luncheon
honoring Art Newman,
Carol Wolk Rose, and Joan Waldman
Each year on Simchat Torah, Temple Israel honors volunteers who have made key and lasting impacts on our community. We honor them during services and during a festive community lunch that caps the Holiday season.
This year we are pleased to honor Art Newman, Carol Wolk Rose, and Joan Waldman, each of whom has contributed greatly to our TI community this year— and over many years of service to our community.
Our festive community lunch is free, but we ask your help in supporting it by supporting our honorees. Please consider a donation to help us reach our financial goal of $1,800 for the luncheon, using orange donation button to your right or by sending a check to the temple office (write the honoree’s name in the memo section so we can pass along news of your donation).
Carol Rose- Kallat Torah
Carol put innumerable hours of dedicated work into making the Torah project come alive. She was the ultimate organizer and coordinator of more than 70 volunteers who stepped forward to help make this program a success. Carol is a rare soul and a critical ‘do-er’ within our congregation. Never seeking the limelight, she can always be relied upon to help our shul realize our dreams.
Art Newman- Hattan Bereshit
Art was behind the vision of the Holocaust Torah restoration project from the very beginning. Starting in the fall of 2015, Art became the chief passionate visionary for our work. His emotional and passionate advocacy for this project gave our work its Neshama. Every time we see that special scroll removed from our ark and read in public we will think of Art. Every time a memorial story from a family in our shul is told, we will owe Art a debt of gratitude for the ways he has helped to link our Torah and our community.
Joan Waldman- Kallat kol HaNearim
Thanks to Joan’s loving, patient teaching style, our children have learned to come close to Torah. Joan’s acts of love extend to her constant devotion to her volunteer work on the Hesed committee. Joan is also a minyan stalwart, where she is reliable in open up the building and helping to make sure everyone who is saying kaddish is supported. Thank you Joan for all you do!
