Constructive Conversations About Israel: What’s So Funny About Israel?

Monday, June 5, 2023 16 Sivan 5783

7:45 PM - 9:00 PM

In person at Temple Israel.
Presented by the Israel Engagement Committee (IEC).

Please join the IEC for the first of a regular series of member-facilitated, safe, and constructive conversations about Israel, on rotating topics like current events, history, and culture.

The Jews are Coming, Hayehudim Ba'im (2014-present) is a popular and sometimes controversial sketch comedy show on Israeli public TV. The show satirizes many aspects of Jewish and Israeli history as well as Jewish tradition and culture from Biblical times to the present. We will profile the show, provide some brief  background on each sketch, and show some clips with English subtitles. A discussion will follow each clip about our reactions and reflections on how the skits portray Jewish and Israeli culture. Come laugh and learn with us!

Constructive Conversations about Israel is a regular program of the IEC designed to give TI members the opportunity to exchange views about Israel in a safe and constructive way. The goal of the conversation is not to persuade, change minds, or reach consensus; rather the goal is to learn from other TI members and grow as individuals and as a community.

Topics will be suggested by participants. We will have a rotating set of facilitators and presenters. The schedule of meetings will depend on community interests.

Any individual participating in the Constructive Conversations about Israel will have read the IEC ground rules and, through their decision to participate, agreed to abide by them.
